Arcata >> With only five games remaining in the 2017 season, it’s pretty safe to say that Robin Guiver and Co. wanted to begin their final week of the year on a pretty good note.Consider the first one of five checked off the list.Andrew Najeeb-Brush had arguably his best outing of the summer, throwing eight shutout innings while striking out 12 batters, and birthday boy Kyle Callahan homered twice as the Humboldt Crabs rolled to an 11-0 win over the San Francisco Seals on Tuesday night. After …
Musician Refentse Morake was discovered giving Afrikaans pop music a unique African flavour on the streets on Vereeniging in 2015 by Cecilia Marchionna. (Image: Refentse Morake official YouTube channel)Brand South Africa reporterMarchionna uploaded a video of his performance on to Facebook and it soon become one of most shared videos in South Africa. With more than 120 000 video views, plus a stage debut at one of the country’s leading music festivals under his belt already, Morake has now released his first album of Afrikaans songs.Titled My Hart Bly In ‘n Taal, the album features his versions of modern South African pop classics, including Johannes Kerkorrel’s Halala Afrika, Koos Kombuis’s Bicycle Sonder ‘n Slot and a Laurika Rauch medley. Among his other performances not on the album but available to view on YouTube are Karen Zoid’s Toe Vind Ek Jou and Jan Blohm’s Breyten se Brief.Zoid, one of South Africa’s most popular musicians, is a big Morake fan. She asked him to perform with her at the Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees, the annual arts festival in Oudtshoorn, in 2015. She also helped in the recording of his album, which is currently the fourth best-selling album on the iTunes local music charts.A true South African, Morake also enjoys kwaito and Zulu gospel music, which he hopes to incorporate with Afrikaans music on a grander scale with his second album. His aim is to bring the diverse South African cultures together through the power of music. While he is excited about the interest in his music, Morake, who matriculated in 2015, is taking fame in his stride. He has chosen rather to study for his law degree at North West University before he takes his music on the road full-time.Source: News24/Netwerk24Would you like to use this article in your publication or on your website? These five FCPX keyboard shortcuts are crucial if you want to increase your editing speed. One of the big complaints about FCPX when it was first released was that the software was too “mouse-driven.” In other words, power users wanted to be able to use keyboard shortcuts to speed up their editorial process and didn’t think FCPX was well-equipped on this front.Although things appeared that way on the surface, FCPX actually offered a whole slew of keyboard shortcuts that were specifically designed to speed up the editorial workflow. Here are five of the most important ones to learn right away if you want to increase your efficiency and overall speed.1. PIf you don’t like working with the magnetic timeline in FCPX, hitting “P” on your keyboard will essentially make the timeline function more traditionally. It’ll let you delete clips without having everything else in your timeline snap into place, and will also allow you to drop clips freely anywhere in the timeline.2. VThis is arguably the most widely used shortcut in FCPX among editors, as it allows you to disable/enable clips with just a single keystroke. I’ll typically use this shortcut to mute certain audio channels or connected clips/b-roll in order to quickly visualize what an edit change may look like without actually having to commit to it.3. Option + SThis shortcut for soloing clips is essentially the opposite of the “V” shortcut. In other words, it allows you to disable every other clip in the timeline that’s not selected, so you can view a single shot or audio clip on its own without interference from surrounding elements.4. Alt + WIf you’ve been using FCPX for a while, you know just how essential gap clips can be. They help to pad your timeline in the right places, add black space for titles to go over, and keep the overall structure of your edit in check. Thankfully, this shortcut allows you to quickly and easily add a gap clip while editing on the fly.5. Option + Command + Up ArrowFor those of you who are still frustrated with how a magnetic timeline works, but for whatever reason don’t like using FCPX in “P” mode, this shortcut will be your lifesaver. When a clip is selected in the primary storyline, it’ll automatically lift it up as a connected clip and replace itself with a black gap. This allows you to keep the exact timing of your edit in check when moving around a-roll clips on your primary storyline.Got any favorite keyboard shortcuts? We’d love to hear about how you speed up your workflow. Let us know in the comments below!
The selection committee of the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) has raised questions regarding the fitness of three of the 14 track and field athletes who have qualified for the London Olympics. The athletes in question are triple jumpers Mayookha Johny and Renjith Maheshwary and marathoner Ram Singh Yadav. The AFI selection committee met on Monday, which was also the last day for qualification, to decide the team for the Olympics.AFI secretary general CK Valson said that the three athletes will have to undergo fitness tests to prove that they are in good enough condition to compete at the Olympics. The reason that the selection committee asked only three athletes to undergo fitness tests was because Mayookha, Renjith and Ram Singh have not competed in the recent past and hence, the selectors wanted to make sure they are fully fit.”Besides Ram Singh, Mayookha and Renjith have also been asked to prove their fitness. The fitness test will be trials so that the athletes can prove that they are fit to compete at the Olympics,” Valson told Mail Today.”The government observer pointed out that these athletes have not competed for quite some time and therefore, it was necessary that we do not send unfit athletes. Their form and fitness needs to be assessed and we have decided to conduct these trials,” he added.Ram Singh’s coach KS Mathew has given July 22 as the date for his ward’s trial that will be conducted in Bangalore, while Renjith and Mayookha and Renjith, both of whom are preparing for the Olympics abroad, have also been communicated about the trials.advertisementMayookha qualified for the Olympics in July last year with a national record effort of 14.11m. However, not much has been heard of her since then, although she did participate in a few competitions and has been confined to her base in Germany.Renjith is in Italy and not much has been heard of him either. His leap of 16.85m at the Federation Cup in June this year secured him an Olympic berth but the federation is not sure about his progress in the last few months.May was the last when he competed in Chonburi during the Asian Grand Prix in Thailand.Out of the three, only Ram Singh is in India and is undergoing high-altitude training in Ooty. However, on Tuesday, his coach KS Mathew received a couple of phone calls from the AFI top brass who asked them to decide on a date for the trial.”I was told that Ram Singh will have to undergo a fitness trial. We have agreed to undergo the trial on July 22 in Bangalore but that will surely affect our training programme,” Mathews told Mail Today. He added that Sports Authority of India (SAI) officials often visit his training camp and have never questioned Ram Singh’s fitness. In fact, SAI officials came as recently as July 1-2 to assess his training.”We have spoken to the coaches with whom they (Mayookha and Renjith) are training and we have figured out a mechanism to conduct their trials as well,” said Valson. The athletes are scheduled to reach London in batches as they are currently training in various countries at the moment.
Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp defended his team selection after Everton snatched a late point in Sunday’s Merseyside derby. The German made six changes to the starting line-up that crushed Spartak Moscow 7-0 in a midweek Champions League group tie, leaving first-choice Brazilians Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino on the bench for the game at Anfield.Dominic Solanke made his second league start up front instead.Liverpool dominated possession and Mohamed Salah swept in a stunning goal just before the break, with the Egyptian then replaced by Firmino in the 67th minute.Coutinho, who had scored a hat-trick on Wednesday, came on for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the 78th minute – a minute after Everton captain Wayne Rooney had levelled from the penalty spot for his first goal in a Merseyside derby.”That’s my job. That I make decisions before I know they are right,” said Klopp in a prickly interview with Sky Sports television.”And afterwards it’s your job to say I’m not right, no problem with that.”Yes, I was sure this was the right decision. We brought Roberto Firmino on for Mo Salah. We could have scored before, we could have scored afterwards, we could have scored all the time. We lived more or less in their box,” added the German.”And obviously we didn’t do it. I have to take that. I have no problem with that.”Liverpool’s next outing is a relatively comfortable-looking home match against relegation-threatened West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday. In Klopp’s defence, Liverpool saw their title challenge collapse in January last year with numerous injuries and the manager will want to avoid a similar occurrence with Champions League knockout games to come.advertisementA point from a match that always fires up the local passions was hardly a disaster and Liverpool at least continued two fine runs of form.
\R New York, Jul 25 (AFP) General Motors cut its full-year profit forecast today, in part due to higher commodity costs as it amplified its warning that mushrooming trade conflicts could dent US and global car sales.GM trimmed its earnings forecast from its prior range of USD 5.52 to USD 5.82 per diluted share to approximately USD 5.14 per share. The company cited a “significant” increase in commodity costs, as well as the sinking valuation of the Argentine peso and Brazilian real that have marred its sales outlook in those markets.GM continues to see US auto sales coming in above the solid level of 17 million vehicles for all of 2018 but views the outlook for 2019 as up in the air in light of trade policy uncertainty, said chief financial officer Chuck Stevens.”We’re not expecting a tariff impact to impact the US industry in 2018,” Stevens told reporters at a briefing.”What happens beyond 2018, I think there’s a lot of uncertainty in this space at this point in time. We’re going to have to see where it lands and how ultimately that impacts the US industry and the global industry frankly.”Like other leading automakers, GM has been a vocal critic of President Donald Trump’s proposed tariff of up to 25 per cent on foreign vehicles and parts, joining a chorus of industry officials in blasting the idea at a hearing last week. The US giant has warned that the tariffs could “lead to a smaller GM.”The Commerce Department has been collecting public comments on the proposal and is not expected to present its findings to the White House for about two months.advertisementThe biggest US automaker reported second-quarter profit of USD 2.4 billion, which was up 44 per cent from the year-ago level following car sales increases in North America and China.Revenues were USD 36.8 billion, down 0.6 per cent from a year ago.GM’s North America sales continued to benefit from a strong performance in sport utility vehicles, pickups and other large vehicles, with key vehicles scoring double-digit increases in sales in the United States.GM also reported another round of strong sales in China, where its unit delivered more than 858,000 vehicles in the second quarter.Several other industrial companies including Whirlpool and Alcoa have cited higher costs for metals and oil-related commodities as a drag in the second quarter. One factor has been US tariffs on imported steel and aluminum. Stevens said most of GM’s steel and aluminum is sourced in the US.Regarding South American currency devaluations, Stevens said the company was hopeful the situation would improve after elections in Brazil this fall.”We’re still optimistic and constructive in South America,” he said.”With that said, we have to react long-term to the macro situation and I’m sure if we don’t see improvement to the macro situation that we’ll step back and take a look at it just like we have in other markets.”Stevens said GM’s performance in China bested expectations in the first half of 2018 but that the second half of the year would be tougher due to more pricing pressure from competitors and the lower valuation of the Chinese yuan.Shares of GM sank 5.4 per cent to USD 37.36 in pre-market trading.(AFP) RUPRUP
• I got Oil Baron time on Saturday. Any Saturday when I get Oil Baron time is a good Saturday. If you’re looking for the comments section, it has moved to our forum, The Chamber. You can go there to comment and holler about these articles, specifically in these threads. You can register for a free account right here and will need one to comment. If you’re wondering why we decided to do this, we wrote about that here. Thank you and cheers! I posted my 10 thoughts on the Oklahoma State-Kansas game earlier, but I wanted to empty the notebook before heading into Homecoming week. All the stuff I was thinking during OSU’s 44-20 W over KU.• I thought the unis were fine. Nothing to get crazy about. None of it really flowed that well together, but I’m always a fan of the gray pants. Might be time to retire the Gargantuan Chrome Pete helmet.• Jalen McCleskey gets my Uni Heisman for the game. The socks. The number. The towel. The fresh kicks. Awesome.• I liked the way OSU started the game. Run, run, run. You’re better than Kansas. You’re more talented them (or you should be). Show them what that looks like early. Run the same three plays over and over and pop ’em with something good for a TD. OSU didn’t complete the first drive, but I still liked the mindset.• Nothing to do with our game, but this crushed me.Verne Lundquist called our March Madness game in ’09. I leaned over pregame and said “Who the hell is Happy Gilmore?!” Rafertee lost it.— Nolan (@nolancox) October 22, 2016• Good crowd, Kansas. There will be more people inside Phog Allen for the OSU basketball game than there were at this game today. Has to be more KU fans in Phog Allen than at football games on a regular basis. Not paid attendance but actual attendance.Kickoff time in Lawrence. #OKState vs Kansas. Cowboys get the ball first pic.twitter.com/6OKFdrXSgQ— Dekota Gregory (@dekotagregory) October 22, 2016• Early on it felt like Kansas had to string together, like, 25 play drives. Then later on Montrell Cozart actually did this in some form or fashion. Astonishing.• Matt did a good tweet.I don’t remember Kansas making an opposing player this uncomfortable since Adarius Bowman launched air balls in Allen Fieldhouse— Matt Amilian (@mattamilian) October 22, 2016• Justice Hill catching check-downs is my sweet and savory place.• How about this? The line on this game was #okstate by 24. #Vegas— Pistols Firing (@pistolsguys) October 22, 2016And this.Opened at 28. #gamblers— Matt Amilian (@mattamilian) October 22, 2016• This was a tremendous tweet.https://twitter.com/csnodgress/status/789873905691308032• This run was awesome. Everything Justice Hill does is awesome.• If not for the weird brick pattern, KU’s unis would have rocked. I have a soft spot for off-color, slightly yellow pants like they wore. I thought they looked tremendous.• At one point in the game I wrote this sentence: Why does it seem like KU has better athletes than us?• This is actually a great idea. I never want to play KU before noon in Lawrence ever again. Not even joking with this next comment:Kansas should play home games at 9:30 a.m.At least experiment once.— Matt Zemek (@MattZemek) October 22, 2016• OSU’s longest kickoff return on the season is 26 yards?! Did I hear that right? Long live Perrish Cox. There’s a human being under there. (via @sarahcphipps) #okstate pic.twitter.com/DF230O8tEC— Carson Cunningham (@KOCOCarson) October 22, 2016• Glenn Spencer’s reaction to all those laterals was terrific.Glenn Spencer is disgusted. https://t.co/Onjf6Rr22O— Pistols Firing (@pistolsguys) October 22, 2016• It’s a rarity to get Piesman love on a non-TD, but Oklahoma State got it on Saturday.Today, @OSUAthletics had THREE different linemen show off their Piesman skills, including two running the option! https://t.co/3T80S82Znc— Piesman Trophy (@piesmantrophy) October 22, 2016 Austin Hays throws into double coverage! https://t.co/F72RvJXo2X— Pistols Firing (@pistolsguys) October 22, 2016• He has lost control! The #GundyMullet was running WILD in postgame today pic.twitter.com/bm8yI4nnTQ— Kyle Fredrickson (@kylefredrickson) October 22, 2016• I was looking forward to the PB and honey sandwich I was eating at halftime more than I was looking forward to the second half. Then we got The Blizzard and an onslaught of Tommy Frazier comparisons, and all was well.• We’re the best team in the country … at blocking kicks.• This is not a position you want to keep putting yourself in.• Here are Montrell Cozart’s career best games. He was 24/40 for 250 yards a TD and two picks on Saturday.• Why is Jalen McCleskey in throwing a flip pass to James Washington?• I greatly enjoyed the long marching drive in the middle of the fourth quarter that started on OSU’s four-yard-line. It went nearly 90 yards, and even though it only ended in a field goal, it essentially ended the game.• The Blizzard! • We somehow have an overwhelming defensive line now which matters over the course of a game. You can sort of say, “well, they’re going to take over lesser teams at some point, and that’s going to be a problem for those lesser teams,” and it usually works.• Whooooo boy.Jordan Sterns is insane. https://t.co/utPwTH7BlP— Pistols Firing (@pistolsguys) October 22, 2016• Austin Hays threw into double coverage on Saturday.
