Pandit Deonarine Liliah and his son Gopaul LiliahOrlando Douglas was on Tuesday committed to stand trial in the High Court for the murders of Pandit Deonarine Liliah and his son Gopaul Liliah.The 31-year-old man, who resides in Campbellville, Georgetown, was committed to stand trial by Magistrate Judy Latchman after a prima facie case was made out against him at the Providence Magistrate’s Court.Douglas was not required to plea to the indictable charge which stated that between July 7-10, 2018, at Craig Street, Campbellville, he murdered Deonarine Liliah and his son Gopaul Liliah. The man was represented by Attorney Melville Duke.Police Prosecutors Shawn Gonsalves and Shellon Daniels led evidence in the case against Douglas. Reports stated the Pandit and his son were found dead on July 10, 2018, in their Lot 25 Craig Street, South Half Section G, Campbellville home after tenants complained of a stench emanating from their home. When the Police arrived, detectives found the back door was left ajar. The young man’s body was found lying face down on the floor in a pool of blood with a red jersey wrapped around his head. There were three stab wounds to his back, one each to the left and right-side abdomen and two to the chest.On the other hand, his father was found lying on his back in the living room. He was clad in a pair of white long pants and a multicoloured top and his face was covered with a multicoloured jersey.However, CCTV footage collected from nearby buildings revealed that a man scaled the fence and entered the premises through a front door. After some time, he was seen leaving the house with two bulky bags and a bucket. The house was ransacked.Douglas was later arrested and slapped with the murder charges.
